One More Notch - Lawrence Reed

One More Notch

In the beginning: Genesis.

God planted a garden toward the east, in Eden; and there He placed the man whom He had formed. God commanded the man, saying: "From any tree of the garden you may eat freely; but from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat from it you will surely die."

Traffic fights.

Traffic grows.

Traffic lights

stem the flows.

Amber sign,

here we go.

Man submits

to Earth’s new foe.

Gaia’s codes have been forgot.

How many decades have we got ?

Rig the dice for one last shot.

There are no more spaces in the parking lot.

The toxic river swells and flows

on this barren road where nothing grows.

Oracles forebode our doom,

while the Pied Piper plays a ragged tune

and we carry on blind to the last saloon.

More lies told.

More cars sold.

Obscured ends

Around blind bends.

Traffic affects us.

Traffic afflicts us.

Traffic affronts us.

Traffic addicts us.

Eden is no longer real,

can’t you hear the trumpets peal?

The Apocalypse is now revealed

as we smash open the sixth seal.

Traffic cracks the black Tarmac.

No redemption, no route back.

One more notch on the tightening ratchet

of humanity's slow torture rack.

One more notch back

on the torture rack.

In the end… Revelation

When he opened the sixth seal, I looked, and behold, there was a great earthquake, and the sun became black as sackcloth, the full moon became like blood, and the stars of the sky fell to the earth as the fig tree sheds its winter fruit when shaken by a gale.

Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more.
